The heart of the historic center of Ascoli Piceno is Piazza del Popolo, famous for its unusual triangular shape and the surrounding buildings, which vary in architectural style and materials.
On the main side stands the Palazzo Comunale, embellished with an elegant loggia with thirteen travertine columns and a 15th-century portico, characterized by brick columns with travertine capitals.
